Friends of St Thomas of Canterbury
In November 2006 it was decided in a well attended meeting to form a new school supporters group. It was named ‘Friends of St Thomas of Canterbury School’. This name was chosen as we thought it best described what we wanted the group to be about ‘Friendships’ through the whole school community.
We organise Fun Days, social evenings and events, winter-warmers, pantomime productions and fund-raising events for everyone to attend and enjoy. At the same time we raise much needed funds for extras that the school needs and help to make the Home/School links stronger.
In recent times ‘Friends’ funds have paid for decorating the Servery (with the children’s own designs), subsidising parties, social events and pantomimes, purchasing leaving presents, buying learning resources and covering expenses for lunchtime clubs, including the Gardening Club. A major outlay has been a badly needed refit of the Parish Kitchen.
Currently a major topic is development of the school grounds, improving the playground areas and the wider natural environment. We are hoping to fund the creation of a Reflective/Spiritual Garden to be shared by children, staff, parents and members of the parish community.
‘Friends’ involves parents, grand-parents and other relatives, staff (support, teaching, lunchtime supervisors and buildings managers) and members of the parish community. We would love to get more people involved, the more ideas and people we have working together, the better. So come along to the next meeting, we would love to see you there.
Meetings are usually held once a term – more often leading up to big events – see the school newsletter for dates and details.
Events to look forward to include the ever successful Summer Fair, a not to miss fun day for all.
