Our Curriculum
All children in school are taught through a ‘Creative Curriculum’ approach, which focuses on key skills. Children are taught skills through a cross-curricular approach within a relevant context.
The curriculum is also designed to ensure that all children are given the opportunity to meet the five outcomes from the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda:
- Being Healthy
- Staying safe
- Enjoying and achieving
- Making a positive contribution
- Achieving economic wellbeing
Children starting school in Reception follow the Foundation Stage curriculum, which is play centred and includes the following six areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication, Language and Learning; mathematical Development ; Knowledge and Understanding about the World; Physical Development and Creative Development. The childrens’ progress in recorded in a Foundation Stage Profile.
At the end of the Reception Year children follow the National Curriculum. This stage of their education is known as Key Stage 1 and at the end of this Key stage, at the age of seven, the children are assessed against national standards by the class teacher, to give a level of attainment.
The children then enter Key Stage 2 and at the end of this Key Stage the children take KS2 tests to measure their attainment again, before they go on to secondary school.
